sponsors. Authors, historians, political figures,
teachers, and community members speak on topics both historical
and current. Programs
are open to the general public and the cost is $2.00. Members

| June 29 at 6:00PM— The Bank with the Gold Dome: A History -
Local historian Scott Fiesthumel will present a history of the Savings Bank of Utica. The Savings Bank of Utica opened in 1839 and quickly became one of the area’s premier financial institutions. Its landmark building on lower Genesee Street is a city icon, widely known for its highly visible, gold-leaf covered dome. Mr. Fiesthumel’s multi-media presentation will trace the history of the Savings Bank from its inception up through its recent acquisition by M & T Bank.
This special presentation is underwritten by a program support grant from Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation. Admission to this, and to all Utica Monday Nite programs, is free. All exhibit galleries will remain open during this event. |
| July 6 at 6:00PM—Road Racing in Utica: A Brief History - Longtime Observer-Dispatch sports editor John Pitarresi will present a history of the Boilermaker 15K Road Race as part of the society’s Utica Monday Nite summer programming.
The Boilermaker 15K was first run in 1978 and has grown into a major event on the international road racing circuit, drawing tens of thousands of participants and supporters from around the world, each summer, to Utica. In 2002 John Pitarresi authored the book Utica Boilermaker: America’s Premier 15K Road Race. His presentation takes place in the week prior to this year’s Boilermaker, which will be run on Sunday, July 12.
